Grid Crop cuts an image into equal tiles that you define — you set 3 rows by 3 columns and it divides the picture evenly, which is what you want for an Instagram puzzle feed. This tool goes the other way: it reads an existing collage, works out where the photos actually sit even when they are different sizes, and trims the frame off each one. Use Grid Crop when you want to cut something up; use this when you want to put something back the way it was.

Yes. That case is exactly what it was built for. The tool cuts along one border, then looks again inside each resulting piece, and repeats. A layout with one large photo on the left and two smaller ones stacked on the right comes apart into three files, not into equal blocks.

Most likely the photos sit edge to edge with no gap between them, leaving nothing to detect. Try dragging the slider towards "more pieces" in case the gap is very thin. If the photos genuinely touch and the layout is even, the Grid Crop tool will do the job — there you enter the rows and columns yourself.

Something inside the photo matched the border colour across its full width — a white sky, a snow field, a plain studio backdrop. Move the slider one step towards "fewer pieces" and it will usually stop. You can also untick the unwanted halves and download the rest.

Yes. The detection runs on a small copy so it stays fast, but every photo is cut from the file you uploaded at its full size. A 4000×3000 collage gives you photos at the resolution they occupy in that original, with no extra compression beyond the format you started with.

No. The file is read directly by your browser and everything — detection, cropping, zipping — happens on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why it also works with the connection off once the page has loaded.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP, up to 50MB. The photos come back in the same family you put in: a JPEG collage produces JPEGs, and everything else produces PNGs, so file sizes stay reasonable.
