Getting a clean cut

Gaps make detection work

Even a few pixels of background between tiles is enough. Seamless sheets have nothing to find, so use a preset there.

Drag beats recounting

If one line is slightly off, drag it rather than changing the row or column count - the rest of the grid stays where you put it.

Arrow keys for the last pixel

Click a line, then use the arrow keys to move it one source pixel at a time, or hold Shift for ten.

Transparent sheets are handled

Detection switches to reading the alpha channel, so dark artwork on a transparent background is not mistaken for empty space.

Fewer colours, smaller file

GIF stores a limited palette. Dropping to 64 colours often halves the file with little visible change on flat artwork.

Ping-pong doubles the frames

It plays forward then backward, which makes short loops smoother but roughly doubles the file size.

It scans for rows and columns that are almost entirely background colour, treats those as the gaps between tiles, and puts a cutting line down the middle of each gap. On transparent images it reads the alpha channel instead of colour.
That usually means the tiles sit edge to edge with no gap between them - there is nothing to detect. Pick the preset that matches your sheet, or drag the lines into place yourself.
