Rules specific to South Korea

• Plain white background with no shadow or pattern.
• Taken within the last 6 months.
• Size is 3.5 × 4.5 cm, with head length from crown to chin between 3.2 and 3.6 cm.
• Online applications recommend 413 × 531 pixels, and head length must still fall in 3.2–3.6 cm once printed.
• Retouching with editing software or filters is prohibited — and the rule explicitly names editing, processing, compositing and generation using AI.
• You may not cut out the background with Photoshop-style tools, nor composite a person onto a white background.
• Ordinary printer paper is not accepted; it must be photographic paper — glossy or matte both qualify — at a recommended 300 DPI.
• Catchlight in the pupils is acceptable as long as identification is unaffected and the shape and colour of the iris are unchanged.
• Cosmetic, coloured or circle contact lenses are banned, as are tinted spectacle lenses and sunglasses.
• High-neck tops and scarves are fine as long as they do not obscure the outline of your face.
• For infants under 36 months who cannot keep their mouth closed, a slightly open mouth is allowed; everything else matches the adult standard.
• Clear glasses may be worn if the eyes remain visible, with no lens glare or frames covering the eyes. Tinted lenses and sunglasses are not accepted.

Why passport photos get rejected

• Check framing, lighting and the current application instructions. A correctly sized crop alone does not guarantee acceptance.
